xx years later\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.ihousecolor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SEI_250724153-cec5.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>But not before stripping shirtless (Picture: BBC)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now, 35 years on, Cage has said he feels the fever-dream chat show appearance might have been a little bit \u2018obnoxious.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I remember Terry Wogan was a very nice man and I enjoyed the interview with him, although I thought I was both obnoxious and somewhat wild,\u2019 the <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/07\/12\/saw-scariest-film-decade-longlegs-not-expect-21205965\/\">Longlegs<\/a> star told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/may\/08\/nicolas-cage-the-surfer-questions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I guess it\u2019s no secret that I was promoting a movie called Wild at Heart, so I was sort of play acting to that.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/04\/12\/renfield-review-nicolas-cage-one-of-years-greatest-cinematic-pleasures-18601170\/\">Renfield<\/a> actor also elaborated on why he decided to wear nothing but a leather jacket for his talk with Wogan, who died aged 77 in 2016 of prostate cancer.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I remember, as a child, I was in a car, a guy was walking down the street, and he had a leather jacket on and no shirt on underneath. I thought: \u201cWell, that\u2019s an interesting look\u201d,\u2019 Cage continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I don\u2019t know why that came back to me when I went on Terry\u2019s show, but I thought, \u201cI\u2019m going to create that look again.\u201d It was incredibly absurd and irreverent. He is wearing a black wetsuit and carrying a yellow surfboard\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.ihousecolor.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SEI_248821462-9709.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Cage\u2019s latest film, The Surfer, is in cinemas now (Picture: AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It comes as Cage\u2019s latest film, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/05\/09\/nicolas-cages-instantly-iconic-deranged-moment-new-film-idea-23056850\/\">bizarre thriller The Surfer<\/a>, comes to cinemas.<\/p>\n<p>In the film, there is yet another signature wild Cage moment that sees his character killing a rat and later eating it, a moment the actor has revealed was entirely his idea.<\/p>\n<p>In a new interview with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/may\/08\/nicolas-cage-the-surfer-questions\">The Guardian<\/a>, Cage confirmed that it was he who wanted to say \u2018Eat the rat!\u2019 before being inspired by the quality of the rubber prop to go one step further.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I had gotten the idea from an old Billy Wilder movie called Sabrina, where Humphrey Bogart takes an olive out of a martini glass, puts it in his uncle\u2019s mouth and says: \u201cEat it\u201d,\u2019 he revealed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I couldn\u2019t stop laughing when I saw that moment. When I saw the prop rat, I said, \u2018I\u2019ll put it in my pocket,\u2019 because I liked the way the rubber tail was moving,\u2019 he explained, adding that he found it \u2018amusing\u2019 and felt he could \u2018use\u2019 it in some way.<\/p>\n<p>Cage decided to \u2018channel it in more of a punk rock way than Bogart did with the olive, by shoving the rat in Pitbull\u2019s [Alexander Bertrand] mouth\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u2018It was a cathartic moment.
